An operator of the golf-course restaurant told the Fairfield Golf Commission they plan major renovations and asked for commission awareness of the facility's acoustical and space limitations.
The unnamed operator said the business had a strong year and proposed investing about $150,000 to $200,000 to enclose the patio for winter use, add a screened porch, refinish the bar area and upgrade equipment. "We would like to probably spend around a $150,000, $200,000 into the into the build," the operator said. The operator added that ongoing equipment replacements are routine, noting they are replacing an oven at roughly $8,000.
Commissioners and the operator discussed contractual limits: the operator said the lease runs through 2027 and acknowledged the contract restricts large summer events so that service to the last golfer is preserved. Commissioners encouraged the operator to proceed with maintenance and suggested avenues (such as working with the town and studying acoustical treatments) but did not authorize any town funds at the meeting. Public commenter Betsy Hume later urged the commission to invest in acoustic panels to improve dining-room sound, an issue the operator had raised.
The commission recorded no vote to fund the operator's proposals; the operator said they would pursue improvements and continue coordinating with town staff.
