Harford County issues Black History Month proclamations to local groups, students

During its Feb. 24 meeting, the Harford County Council read proclamations recognizing Black History Month and honored three local groups.
The council saluted Young Men on Tour (YMOT), a mentoring nonprofit that serves more than 100 young men in the county; YMOT leaders thanked the council and highlighted weekly meetings, dual-enrollment opportunities and mentorship activities.
The Harford County branch of the NAACP was recognized for its history of civil-rights advocacy and local work; branch representatives thanked the council for the recognition and reaffirmed efforts to advance equity.
Aberdeen High School’s Black Student Union, founded in October 2024, was also honored. Student leaders described activities including cultural events, voter-registration drives and school-wide forums on inclusive language, and thanked teacher sponsor Mr. Landgraf.
Council members noted the 100th anniversary of national Black History Month commemorations and praised the student and community efforts to keep history and civic engagement visible.
