Southside Virginia ASAP asks Appomattox for $5,000 annual contribution to maintain DUI supervision services

Roy Keith Lloyd, on behalf of the Southside Virginia Alcohol Safety Action Program (ASAP), asked the Board to consider a $5,000 annual contribution from Appomattox County to support DUI education, probation supervision and ignition interlock services.
Lloyd said ASAP is one of 20 local certified programs in Virginia and the only state-recognized provider in Appomattox County authorized to deliver DUI education and supervise ignition interlock devices for people convicted of impaired driving. He noted the program's FY26 budget is $542,760 and cited national and state statistics on alcohol-impaired driving, then asked the county for the modest local contribution to maintain staffing and local access to services.
Board members asked whether Appomattox had representation on the ASAP board; Lloyd said Sheriff Richardson serves on the ASAP board and that the office has supervised referrals from Appomattox courts. The Board did not take an immediate vote on the request during the meeting.
