County updates Liberty Fairfield remodel and courtroom relocations; engineering and bid packages under way

County administrators told the Butler County Board of Commissioners on Jan. 27 that work has begun on the Liberty Fairfield Building remodel and that court relocations are progressing.
The administrator said Triton Incorporated was awarded the general contract for the Liberty Fairfield remodel and crews are currently engaged in planning and remodeling tasks in preparation to relocate the water and sewer department and the development department (including building and zoning). The schedule presented calls for construction activity through the summer with relocation in the fall.
Area 1 and Area 2 court moves are described as a priority. The Area 1 court has a firm relocation deadline of March 31; county staff said they were communicating closely with Area 1 and Area 2 judges to meet that timeline. Administrators told the board there are multiple bid packages out or awarded for the sheriff/coroner/911 consolidated project and requested a project update for the Feb. 24 meeting that would summarize budget, schedule and remaining bid packages.
The engineer reported a planned roundabout at Westchester limits (Dimock Road and Macaulay Road) with an estimated cost of $1,515,923.38 under an ODOT cooperative program in which ODOT will retain 100% of eligible costs. The board also heard routine engineering bond/permit items and a not-to-exceed $49,999 contract with Palmer Engineering for general engineering services.
Commissioners asked for a work session or dedicated presentation to discuss repurposing the old administration building and to review space-utilization plans for the Liberty Campus. No final decisions about repurposing or tenant moves were made at the meeting.
