Butler County approves $1.5M workers'comp seed transfer and reviews $48.8M in requisitions

Butler County Finance Director Dave McCormack presented finance items to the Board of Commissioners on Jan. 6, 2026, including a $1,500,000 transfer from the general fund to establish the beginning balance of a newly created workers' compensation fund and a $150,000 cash advance to the county's health insurance purchasing pool to support annual cash flow, to be repaid within the year.

McCormack told the board that the $1.5 million transfer had been approved previously in September 2025 as part of an earlier resolution when the county reorganized its health-insurance and workers' compensation funds. He recommended approval of the transfers and advances.

He also reported approximately 170 purchase requisitions totaling $48,777,648. Of that total, McCormack said, roughly $15.7 million was submitted by Child Support/Children Services (CSA), $8 million by the Department of Job and Family Services, $2.6 million by the Sheriff's Office and $21.9 million by Water and Sewer. McCormack and county administration said they had done a cursory review and found nothing of concern; all requisitions were within 2026 budgeted amounts.

The board moved and seconded approval of the finance agenda items and commissioners responded affirmatively when polled. McCormack then presented other procurement and departmental items, including bid activity for courthouse façade and roof repairs and various water, sewer and personnel items on the consent agenda.

The board did not discuss altering the transfer amounts; the finance presentation concluded with staff thanking the commissioners.
