School officials previewed an expanded College & Career Day set for April 9 with about 60 breakout sessions, 65 vendors and keynote Don Wettrick; the meeting also included music, athletics and academic recognitions and a list of community sponsors.
Silver Creek School leaders previewed a larger College & Career Day scheduled for April 9 and used the board meeting to recognize student achievements in academics, music and athletics.
Kate Brown, who leads planning for the event, said the district expects about 65 vendors and 60 breakout sessions, an increase of roughly 30 sessions from last year. Students will select five breakout sessions tailored to their interests, and the event includes an aux-gym vendor fair and networking opportunities with community partners. Brown said the goal is not to force career decisions but to open students’ eyes to possibilities and help them begin exploring postsecondary options.
The board also heard a pre-recorded message from keynote Don Wettrick emphasizing entrepreneurship, and alumni Nate Ross described a past awards program that gave five students $2,500 each. Band director Patrick Regan reported five students were selected to the IMEAA Invitational Honor Band, and Cora Jocham became the district’s first student named to the IBA Junior All-State Band.
Brown thanked staff and community partners for logistics and donations: Preferred Meats donated pork for volunteer lunches and local businesses committed sponsorships for student awards. The consent agenda at the meeting updated donation counts to six and added an overnight robotics team trip for April 2026 at Washington High School.
Board members congratulated students and thanked the planning team; no formal action was required beyond consent-agenda updates.
