The San Gabriel City Council voted unanimously to appoint Kevin Dipp to the Planning Commission on Feb. 17, selecting him from a final two-person ballot after an interview round with city leaders. Council member Herrera Avila moved to appoint Dipp; Council member Ding seconded. The motion passed 5-0.
City staff had earlier explained that councilmembers would first select a top two from the full applicant pool, then conduct a final ballot to choose a single appointee. The clerk announced the top two as Kevin Dipp and Brian Brenhaug before the final vote.
The appointed seat fills one unscheduled vacancy on the Planning Commission with a term ending May 31, 2026. During his interview, Dipp emphasized neighborhood engagement and described work with the city to regain residential parking and clean up graffiti. He cited professional experience in construction, facilities operations and sustainability, and said he holds LEED credentials and supports renewable-energy measures and green-space investments.
Councilmembers congratulated Dipp after the vote and encouraged other applicants to reapply in April when additional staggered vacancies will be considered. The council adjourned following the appointment.
