Commissioners approve $3.74 million for youth treatment center, VOCA funds for CASA

Amy Mataszewski told the Lucas County Board of Commissioners the county would receive two juvenile-court grants: $3,741,110 to operate the Youth Treatment Center through June 30, 2026, and a Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) award of $82,545.36 to support CASA staffing, training and outreach. "The amount of this year's allocation is $3,741,110," Mataszewski said.
The VOCA award was described as funding "part partial salary for 1 of our staff attorneys, training and advertisements for the CASA department." Mataszewski initially misstated the VOCA end date as June 30 but corrected that the VOCA agreement runs Oct. 1 through Sept. 30.
A commissioner moved for approval and the board voted in favor. One commissioner stated an intention to abstain on the Toledo Public Schools item that followed, but the juvenile-court items received roll-call approval.
The funding will support operations at the Youth Treatment Center through mid‑2026 and help sustain CASA legal and outreach capacity. No additional conditions or amendments were announced at the meeting.
