Lucas County amends travel policy to require board approval for out‑of‑state travel by commissioners

Mary Kunkle said the proposed amendment to the county travel policy requires that all out‑of‑state travel for Lucas County commissioners and employees under their reporting authority be approved by board resolution. The amendment also updates frequent‑flyer benefit language in accordance with an Ohio Ethics Commission advisory issued Aug. 4. Kunkle said the change is intended to put out‑of‑state travel before the board for transparency; previously directors had approved such travel at the department level.
The board also approved a new donation acceptance policy that establishes procedures for receiving donated goods and services and a temporary grant of authority for Lucas County Canine Care and Control to accept donations and monetary gifts under $5,000 through 2026. Commissioners approved the set of policies by roll call.
Support Services said larger monetary donations (over $5,000) will continue to come before the board for approval.
