The Lucas County Board of Commissioners approved two energy-related resolutions presented by the prosecutor’s office on Feb. 3. John Burrell described a time-sensitive process for entering electric supply contracts on behalf of the Northwest Ohio Aggregation Coalition (NOAC). Because market prices can shift rapidly, the resolution authorizes signing a recommended electric supply contract in a form approved by the prosecutor’s office when a winning proposer is identified.
Burrell also recommended a 12‑month extension of the county’s natural gas supply contract with Archer Energy, extending service from June 2026 through May 2027. The extension was presented as a means to streamline distribution of a potential $1–$3 million customer refund tied to an anticipated ruling in a rate dispute between Archer and Columbia Gas; Burrell said that without the extension customers could still receive refunds but would need to claim them individually.
Commissioner Gerken moved approval of both items; the board approved them by roll call. No final contract price was disclosed for the electric supply authorization during the meeting; Burrell said Palmer Energy and NOAC have historically produced savings for ratepayers and are continuing negotiations.
