Fargo police tell liquor board ID scanners are effective tool after Dec. 23 verification

Lt. Nick Jonas of the Fargo Police Department briefed the Fargo Liquor Control Board on a Dec. 23 proactive response when officers verified the validity of an ID at a licensed establishment after the venue's ID reader failed to read the card.
"The ID scanners are an effective tool, especially for the establishments," Jonas told the board, and said officers stand ready to respond when a discrepancy is reported. Jonas said police walkthroughs at establishments can be a positive presence and that department staff will continue both reactive and proactive support for licensees.
Board members thanked the department for the work; one member said the number of incidents appears to be down, crediting cooperative industry practices and increased proactive measures. Jonas said he will review trends as he settles into his role and provide further information to the board as available.
