Senate Health committee advances HB27 to improve emergency care for strokes, heart attacks

The Senate Health and Social Services Committee on Feb. 17 voted to move House Bill 27, “medical major emergencies,” out of committee with individual recommendations and an attached fiscal note.
Representative Genevieve Mina, for the record representing House District 19, told the committee HB27 is “vital” to improving emergency services for severe strokes and heart attacks and would better utilize the Office of EMS to save time and costs while improving care for Alaskans. The committee opened a two‑minute public testimony period and, finding no speakers in person or online, closed testimony.
After brief discussion the committee received a motion to report HB27 from committee with individual recommendations and the attached fiscal note; with no objections, the motion carried. The motion on the record directed Legislative Legal to make any necessary conforming changes.
The committee paused briefly after the action to sign paperwork and moved on to the next agenda item. No final floor action on HB27 was taken at this hearing; the committee’s action was to report the bill from committee for the next steps in the legislative process.
