Hocking County commissioners approve sheriff's union contract, bridge contract and routine budget moves

Hocking County commissioners voted to approve multiple measures at their meeting after emerging from executive session, including a three-year collective bargaining agreement for the sheriff's office and a low-bid contract for a bridge rehabilitation project.
The board unanimously approved a resolution to accept the 2026–2028 collective bargaining agreement between the sheriff's office and the Fraternal Order of Police, Ohio Labor Council, following presentation of the agreement and a formal roll-call vote. "I make the motion to, approve this resolution," said an attending commissioner before the clerk recorded affirmative votes from Jason Denandro and Edgar Davidson.
In infrastructure action, County Engineer Bill Shaw recommended awarding the bridge rehabilitation contract (PID 112312 CR147.00.3) to RC Construction Company & Sons for $1,010,917 based on the low bid; commissioners approved the resolution.
Finance items included corrections and appropriations to several county funds. The board approved a clerical transfer of $15,248.70 from an equipment fund into the Housing Trust Fund to correct an error, an additional appropriation of approximately $15,002.48 for auditor/recorder equipment, a $300 appropriation to cover cleaning deposit refunds, and a $1,630.50 appropriation to cover a 1% administrative fee tied to the Recorder's Housing Trust Fund.
Other approvals and appointments
- The board approved the reappointment of Bobby Bishop to the Hocking Valley Community Hospital board of trustees for a six-year term effective March 1, 2026, following a letter of recommendation from Ruth Ann Spatar, the hospital board chair. - Commissioners approved the final adopted budget for the Hocking Valley Community Residential Center in Nelsonville; the county is acting as fiscal agent. - The board approved an intergovernmental agreement with Jackson County for mass appraisal services, under which Jackson County will reimburse Hocking County for appraisal work. - Roy Adams was approved as the county's apiary inspector. - The board accepted the December dog warden report and authorized hiring a structural engineer to inspect damage at a fairgrounds building following a vehicle collision; insurer Corsa will pay the structural-engineering fee.
