Cuyahoga County Council votes to meet in executive session on collective bargaining and litigation

Cuyahoga County Council’s Committee of the Whole voted July 8 to move into an executive session to discuss a collective bargaining matter and pending or imminent court action.
The motion to enter executive session was moved and seconded and approved by roll call. The clerk recorded affirmative votes from Council Members Sweeney, Castleberry, Gallagher, Schlepper, Conwell, Jones, Houser, Simon, Kelly and Council President Miller; Council person Meredith Turner was absent. After the roll call the clerk stated, “The motion carries.”
Under Ohio’s open meetings laws, the council announced it would take its livestream down while members met in an adjacent committee room and would return to the public meeting afterward. Council leaders said the topics for the executive session were specifically a collective bargaining matter and pending or imminent court action; no further substance was disclosed on the public record.
The council returned from executive session later in the meeting and the clerk announced the executive session had been completed. The Committee of the Whole then adjourned and the body said it would begin the regular council meeting at 5:00 p.m.
