Senator Kathy Tilton, newly appointed to the Alaska Senate, used the caucus meeting to introduce herself and outline immediate priorities including a ceremonial resolution and two policy measures.
Tilton said her first Senate item was SR 4, a resolution to honor the United States’ semiquincentennial (the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence). She said SR 4 was the first item voted on in the Senate and passed unanimously with many cosponsors.
Tilton said she introduced SB 239 to address vehicle-titling regulations that she described as out of alignment with federal rules and expects it to move through the Legislature relatively smoothly. She also said she is drafting legislation to address elder fraud, prompted in part by a phone scam that targeted her mother in which callers used AI to impersonate her voice and demanded cryptocurrency payments. Tilton said the measure would include guardrails on cryptocurrency kiosks and other consumer protections.
Tilton framed these priorities as local constituent protections and technical fixes rather than mandates or new spending: SR 4 carried no funding and SB 239 addresses regulatory alignment, she said.
