Juneau — The Alaska House Finance Committee on Feb. 11 unanimously adopted a committee substitute for House Bill 265, the FY27 mental health budget, naming the work draft version I as the committee’s working document.
Alexander Schroeder, the committee’s budget coordinator, told members the mental health substitute parallels the operating committee substitute: it contains technical and conforming changes and reverts to an adjusted base in accordance with the Legislative Finance Division’s definition. He said the governor’s Dec. 11 mental health bill included capital items and that this CS preserves those capital items and their funding.
Co‑chair Josephson removed his earlier objection and the committee adopted version I unanimously as the working draft for HB 265. Schroeder said he was available to answer further questions as the committee moves into subcommittee and amendment work.
What happens next: The mental health CS will be considered as part of the committee’s ongoing budget work; additional hearings and amendments may follow in subcommittee and on the House floor.
