City Manager Ron told the Statesville City Council that the airport terminal building is complete and a ribbon-cutting is scheduled for Feb. 9 at 2:00 p.m. He said the city is moving forward with a 90%‑complete design for an apron expansion that would enlarge the FBO tarmac and create space for additional hangars.
Ron said bids for the corporate development apron were opened Jan. 22 and identified Country Boy Landscaping as the apparent low, responsive and responsible bidder for that work. He also reported the city recently received notice of a $3,000,000 state grant to assist Weststar with apron and horizontal work to accelerate a planned hangar expansion, calling the award “a huge win” for economic development.
The city will finalize the apron design and put it out to bid after the design is completed. Council members asked for follow-up materials about timing and next steps; Ron said he would send more detailed information to council after the meeting. The airport ribbon-cutting and the design/bid schedule are the immediate procedural next steps.
