Committee urges Congressional action on San Carlos Irrigation Project electric system

Russell Smolden of the Arizona Municipal Power Users Association told the committee the system is old, the BIA has struggled to keep up with growth and that partners have been working with the San Carlos Apache Community and federal agencies to map service territory and plan potential divestiture. He said stakeholders hope to have congressional action or a bill by fall. The committee voted 8–0 to recommend the memorial.
The memorial is a policy statement urging federal attention and funding; it does not itself authorize state expenditures.
