Doctor Johnson outlined two primary priorities: strengthen standards‑aligned instructional progressions in literacy and mathematics and increase consistency of instructional expectations and communication across schools and grades, with initial measurable emphasis on third‑grade English language arts and seventh‑grade mathematics. He described action steps including developing articulated vertical progressions, defining grade‑level mastery using student work, and convening faculty study groups to back‑map skills across transitions.
Board members pressed for public reporting and monitoring. Doctor Johnson said there is currently no Department of Education reporting mechanism for progress on the plan and recommended the district add regular progress updates to the superintendent's newsletter and tie reviews to other reporting cycles. The board approved posting the draft for a 28‑day public review; administration will solicit community feedback during that period and return to the board next month for final consideration and, if approved, submit the plan to the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
