The York County Board of Commissioners voted to buy a new motor grader from Murphy Tractor, selecting a configuration with larger tires and the premium "circle" package, and approved the purchase by roll call during the meeting. The board recorded the purchase amount as $348,750 and directed that the payment come from the countyinheritance fund as soon as the machine is on-site and billed.
Board members spent an extended portion of the meeting weighing options between a used 2021 CAT 150 (reported at inspection as ~2,039 hours) and new machines from two vendors. Representatives from NMC/CAT (Travis Boyle) and Murphy Tractor (Jake Rudel) described their proposals and warranties. NMC offered a used option with a 2-year/2,000-hour drivetrain warranty; both dealers presented new-machine quotes that included a 6-year/7,000-hour warranty.
Commissioners discussed repair-cost volatility for older machines and the potential merits of lease or governmental-finance arrangements to limit out-of-warranty risk. Murphy Tractor highlighted JDLink telematics and the company's premium circle/premium tire options; NMC noted an on-the-ground used trade-in option that would be available immediately. Board members ultimately favored the Murphy configuration to balance delivery time, durability and fleet compatibility.
The motion to purchase carried in roll call with one No vote from Commissioner Bowman and Yes votes from the other members present. Staff said they will finalize purchase paperwork and coordinate delivery with the vendor.
