At its Feb. 17 meeting the Rockingham County Board of Elections approved a resolution honoring former board member Thurman Hampton, who resigned effective Jan. 31, 2026, and appointed Dr. Bert Jones as the board secretary by voice vote.
A public commenter, Jeff Webster, spoke in praise of Hampton and welcomed newly appointed Wally White to the board. Staff read the resolution noting Hampton’s appointment and reappointment dates and his service as board secretary beginning Aug. 5, 2025. The chair moved that the resolution be entered into the official minutes and the motion passed by voice vote.
Board members nominated and seconded Dr. Bert Jones for the secretary position; the chair announced that Dr. Bert Jones will now serve as board secretary. Members offered remarks thanking Hampton for his service and welcoming White as a new board member.
The resolution and the secretary appointment were recorded in the meeting and staff will present a copy of the resolution to Thurman Hampton.
