Board confirms hires, appoints Nick Riley as principal and approves consultant and agreement

The Madison Local Schools board approved a package of personnel items and consent-agenda business during its Feb. 17 meeting.
Administrators recommended entering into substitute-teacher agreements for two individuals (Brooklyn and Lucia) and one-year personal-service contracts for David Marceli and Rachel Garvin (drama assistant/technical director and spring musical choreographer). The board approved these personnel recommendations by roll-call vote, 5–0.
The board also approved the appointment of Nick Riley to the position of grade 3–6 building principal at the Madison Middle School location, effective Aug. 1, 2026. Riley introduced himself to the board and said he currently serves as an assistant principal at South Elementary School. "I'm truly honored by your confidence and support, and I'm excited to begin this new role and continue working to support our students, staff, and families here in Madison," he said.
On the consent calendar, the board approved an agreement and bylaws with the Lake County Schools Council and a consultant services contract with Ryan Zavoda as spring musical director. The board accepted a $1,000 donation from Bridal Residential to Massa Middle School for an NJHS service project; all consent items and donations were approved 5–0.
Board members did not request an executive session and adjourned the meeting after completing the agenda.
