Staff said the DDA’s $10,000 would secure DDA branding and access; staff also said contributions would be proportional to each entity’s revenue stream rather than equal dollar shares.
Members asked how message access would be governed and who would serve as the gatekeeper. Staff said the city office overseeing the current sign would likely manage content and that participating entities would have the ability to promote their events; the board clarified the sign is intended for community information, not commercial advertising.
The board approved the $10,000 commitment by voice vote and later approved a motion to split the payment into two installments to give the DDA time for fundraising and budgeting. Members asked staff to return warranty and maintenance details and to document the funding split and access rules before the sign is activated.
The chair said the city council previously approved purchase of the sign contingent on funding being accumulated from all entities that want access. The board’s vote signals local financial support for the project while reserving follow-up steps on governance and operating details.
