The Rhode Island Senate on March 25 passed a resolution honoring the Rhode Island Food Policy Council (RIFPC) for work on food security, sustainable production and coordination across stakeholders.
Senator Linda L. Ujifusa introduced the resolution and noted that "Rhode Island currently only grows about 3% of its own food," arguing that the council’s work on resilience and access to nutritious food is critical. The clerk read the resolution text, which cites RIFPC’s founding in 2011 and commends the council’s collaboration with volunteers, community groups, government agencies, farmers and businesses.
After the resolution passed by voice vote, Senator Ujifusa introduced attendees in the gallery, including Diane Lynch, identified as president of the Rhode Island Food Policy Council, Rebecca Kelly of the food access and nutrition security work group, Angel Mendez of food business and economic development, and Tyson Botinis of the climate and environment work group. The resolution instructs the secretary of state to transmit certified copies to state leaders per the text. The measure passed with no recorded roll call.
