Victoria — At the June 18 council meeting, Parks Director Lisa Wube presented details for the city's Bicentennial "Blast Off" July 4 celebration and outlined the seasonal mosquito‑management program.
Wube said the celebration will include a 5K, a car show, a fishing clinic, vendor areas and live music beginning at 4 p.m., with fireworks to be launched from the golf course by Roar Over Texas and audio provided by CNC Productions. She listed event partners and sponsors and reminded attendees of safety rules: no weapons, no parking on unapproved surfaces and keep pets on leash.
On mosquito control, Wube said the parks department sprays in the evenings (typically starting around 9 p.m.) and divides the city into two zones; a full city spray typically takes about three days. Staff will respond to specific complaints, work with county health officials and distribute one free mosquito dunk per household so staff can provide on‑site guidance. Councilors asked about mosquito trapping for disease surveillance; Wube said the city conducts trapping as part of a multipronged approach with licensed TDA professionals and in partnership with county health officials.
