Victoria City Council on May 21 honored outgoing Councilwoman Josephine Solis for 12 years of service and swore in newly elected members before moving on to regular business.
Mayor Crocker praised Solis’s tenure, saying she “provided steadfast leadership” after Mayor McCoy’s passing and served the city on multiple regional boards. Councilmembers offered personal tributes and recounted projects during her service, including new and refurbished fire stations and improvements to parks and infrastructure. Solis told the council she had “loved what I do” and that she plans to remain involved in the community.
The council then administered oaths to newly elected members. The city secretary swore in Stephen Kidder (District 2), April Butler (District 3) and Janicell Scott (District 4). Each repeated the oath to “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States and of this state.” Mayor Crocker welcomed the new members to the dais.
Council also held nominations for mayor pro tem. After a nomination and second, the council approved Dr. Young as mayor pro tem by voice vote.
The meeting transitioned to regular agenda items after remarks, recognitions and the swearing-in ceremony. No formal council actions tied directly to the recognitions were recorded beyond the oath administration and election of mayor pro tem.
