District outlines plan to use nearly $240,000 gift for high school technology and engineering

The Manheim Township School District reported receipt of a nearly $240,000 beneficiary designation to support career and technology education at the high school and outlined initial priorities for how the money would be used.
Dr. Reiman told the board the gift arrived via a beneficiary designation from Sharon Hargrave and is intended to support the high school’s Technology and Engineering department. Administrators, high school staff and department teachers have met several times to identify how to deploy the funds most effectively. The district divided potential uses into three priority groups.
Priority 1, which the district presented as the first phase of spending, focuses on expanding and upgrading an engineering lab area. The plan would reconfigure Room 188 (removing a wall), update flooring, ceiling, lighting, electrical and HVAC systems, and install furniture and storage; adjacent Room 168 would be reworked to add soundproofing windows between lab areas. Dr. Reiman described a current budget estimate for that priority at about $79,000, excluding additional construction and furniture costs.
Future priorities include design-build lab improvements and upgrades to the digital media lab classrooms. Dr. Reiman said administrators and teachers will continue to collaborate on how to use the funds for the greatest student benefit and that the district plans to acknowledge the donor when projects are complete.
"The funds came from a beneficiary designation where Miss Sharon Hargrave named Manheim Township School District to receive these funds to be used toward specifically toward career and technology programs and resources," Dr. Reiman said.
