Commissioners authorize bike-path LPA, Safe Routes applications and a paving contract

Hocking County commissioners approved several transportation initiatives and contracts.
Amanda from the engineer's office described an LPA (local participating authority) resolution that authorizes the engineer to sign an agreement with ODOT to design a bike path between Aqueduct Park and the middle school; she said the county has more than $2 million in funding already authorized for that project. Commissioners voted to approve the resolution and permit the engineer to execute the agreement.
The board authorized submittal of an application to Buckeye Hills for Surface Transportation Block Grant funds (up to $200,000) to add sidewalk along Old McArthur Road to better connect West Logan to existing sidewalks on State Route 664.
Commissioners also approved an ODOT Safe Routes to Schools resolution to pursue funding to connect the middle school to the high school via Maysville/Lockheed/State Route 328 and other local streets.
On contracts, the board approved entering into a contract with Shelly Sands (Maysville/Williams paving and related roads) following the recent bid opening; a commissioner moved to sign the contract and the motion passed by voice vote.
Commissioners emphasized pursuing multiple funding streams and coordinating design work across the projects to accelerate construction.
