Hocking County opens bids for Job & Family Services building; staff to tabulate and recommend award

The Hocking County Board of Commissioners opened sealed bids for a new Job & Family Services building during its public meeting.

Jim Thomas, representing Job and Family Services, read the submitted bids and alternates and said staff will tabulate the results and prepare a written recommendation for the commissioners. Bidders and the general-trades amounts announced by Thomas included: Gupnik Construction, $2,690,000; 2K General Company, $2,793,800; Settler and Building Company, $2,987,000; Drummond Construction Inc., $2,992,000; TAT Realty LLC, $2,720,141; and Wolf Creek Contracting Company LLC, $3,264,250. Thomas also read named alternates and allowances reported with several bids.

"I'm gonna open the bids in a particular order," Thomas said as he read totals and alternates. He told the board he would verify that bids met bidding requirements, contact contractors only to confirm administrative compliance, tabulate the results and then deliver a recommendation to the commissioners.

Commissioners asked whether staff had qualified the bids; Thomas said he would verify compliance, "write a letter of recommendation to the commissioners" and set a preconstruction meeting after the award. He said the bids were within a close range and ‘‘were under budget’’ from the project estimate.

Next steps: staff will complete bid qualification and tabulation, notify commissioners and Christie by email with a recommendation, and schedule a reconstruction/preconstruction meeting with the selected contractor if the board accepts the recommendation.
