Spring-Ford board hires Dr. Jay Burkhart as superintendent, effective on or about April 1, 2026

The Spring-Ford Area School District board voted unanimously, 8–0, on Jan. 29 to appoint Dr. Jay Burkhart to a five-year contract as superintendent of schools beginning on or about April 1, 2026.

Board members discussed the motion during the personnel section of the agenda and expressed appreciation for the search process and the candidates. The chair announced that one board member, Dr. Maggie Wright, was teaching and had informed the board she supported Burkhart despite being unable to attend in person.

After the vote, Dr. Burkhart addressed the board and community, thanking interview panelists and staff and saying he was both "excited" and "anxious" to begin. He asked residents to introduce themselves and engage with him when he arrives, and reiterated that his contract start date is on or about April 1.

The board conducted a public roll call earlier in the meeting showing eight members present and Dr. Wright absent; the chair announced the appointment motion carried 8–0. The vote was recorded as a voice vote with the chair declaring the outcome; the transcript did not record a named mover or second for the motion.

Next steps noted in the meeting record: Dr. Burkhart will assume responsibilities consistent with his contract on or about April 1, 2026, and the district will continue transition planning with current superintendent Dr. Scanlon.
