The North Allegheny Foundation announced at the Jan. 21 school board meeting the creation of the Waffington Family Drama Award Endowment, funded by an initial $52,000 contribution from John and Judy Waffington.
According to the foundation's report, the endowment is intended to support excellence in theater arts at North Allegheny. "This permanent endowment, funded with an initial contribution of $52,000, is dedicated to supporting excellence in theater arts at North Allegheny," the foundation said in its report. The foundation said 4% of the endowment balance will be distributed each year, with half awarded to an outstanding graduating senior and half granted to the North Allegheny theater department.
Selection criteria will require that the recipient be a North Allegheny senior who has participated in two theater productions and plans to attend a four-year college. Selections will be made by a panel composed of North Allegheny educators, foundation trustees, and alumni.
The foundation encouraged contact for more information or additional contributions to the endowment.
What’s next: Parents and community members who want to contribute or learn more were directed to contact the North Allegheny Foundation; the board did not set an award start date during the meeting.
