Superintendent reports boiler failures, temporary rental and upcoming architects' presentation on school design

During the superintendent's report, Superintendent Bigger told the board the district is addressing multiple facilities issues while staff continue planning for long-term construction.
Bigger said two weather-related closures have been converted to school days and thanked staff for organizing a successful mid-year graduation. He said architects are working to reduce square footage in the next phase of planned construction and that the board will see the architects' presentation at an upcoming meeting. Bigger said the district is also compiling consolidation-savings estimates and one-time sale proceeds to present realistic financial scenarios to the board.
Tammy reported that two of three boilers failed on the weekend of Jan. 17. The boilers were installed in 2001 and have reached the end of their service life. Working with Matt Varner, Scott Moyer and contractor 3B Solutions, the district brought in a rented 300 HP boiler from Scranton on a 48-foot trailer and installed it as a temporary measure. Tammy said the district is pursuing a permanent solution, potentially purchasing two high-efficiency boilers capable of sustaining the building through an anticipated occupancy timeline into 2029.
Bigger also said PFM will appear at a future meeting to present financing options for the district’s building program.
