District outlines summer paving, tennis court resurfacing and phased roof restorations

District facilities staff told the Great Valley School District Board on Feb. 9 that a T&M Associates proposal will be used to design and develop bids for a summer paving project covering middle and high school paved areas and resurfacing select tennis courts, with work slated for completion before the next school year.
Facilities staff said the tennis‑court resurfacing covers practice and underused courts that have been out of play because of surface conditions; the main courts used for matches are reported to be in acceptable condition. The staff also presented roof restoration authorizations for General Wayne (urgent repairs) and for Sugartown and the high school, which are included in the district capital projects plan and for which the district will apply for a two‑year Public School Facility Improvement Grant. "These funds will be paid for utilizing our capital projects fund, and these funds are already slated as part of our capital projects plan," staff said.
The board asked whether paving should be slowed while a larger field‑design project proceeds; facilities staff said the paving and field projects are separate, that paving deferred from the previous summer is necessary to address cracking and failing concrete, and that some resurfacing (tennis courts) can be incorporated into the paving project because of compatible surfaces.
Board members also asked whether resurfaced courts would become pickleball courts; staff replied the current plan is to resurface them for tennis play. Regarding change orders, staff explained the two new change orders (numbers 51 and 52) are reconciliations from fiscal year 2024–25 for metal blocking/wall plates and bathroom accessories and that the district validates such items before approving payment. Facilities staff said legal signoff and final pay application reconciliation remain part of closing older projects.
Next steps: the design/bid package will go out in the spring and project awards and timing will be handled through the capital projects process; the board will see funding and bid details as they are developed.
