Summary
District communications presenter Teresa Morrison outlined a draft three‑year strategic communications plan focused on internal communications structure, digital accessibility, and brand development; the draft is informational and the full plan is in BoardDocs for board feedback.
Teresa Morrison presented a draft three‑year strategic communications plan to the Great Valley School District Board at its Feb. 9 work session, saying the plan is for board input and is informational rather than an item requiring a vote.
Morrison outlined three primary focus areas: strengthening organizational communications by creating protocols for major initiatives and crisis messaging; improving digital connection and accessibility with tailored ADA guidance for district platforms such as Canvas, Seesaw and ParentSquare; and building the district brand through a style guide, templates and an ambassador program to surface stories from staff across buildings. "The idea for a framework for community engagement is to plan ahead with these organizations so that we know who we're working with and we can remain consistent with some of those partnerships," Morrison said.
Morrison said the long‑form draft of the plan is available in BoardDocs and that the communications committee has already provided input. The superintendent told the board that staff will continue to refine the plan based on board feedback and that the item is intended to shape upcoming goals for 2026–27 rather than trigger immediate board action.
Board members asked clarifying questions about deliverables and timing; Morrison said several action items and templates (for newsletters, graphics and presentations) are defined in the draft and that a social‑media strategy timing could shift between late year one and early year two depending on priorities. The presentation concluded with staff inviting individual board members to submit further comments.
Next steps: staff will incorporate board feedback as they finalize the plan; no formal adoption was scheduled at the work session.
