The Fairfax County Architectural Review Board set a three-minute limit for public comment and approved several action items at its Feb. 12 meeting.
Early in the meeting a motion to limit public comment to three minutes per member of the public was moved and seconded. The board adopted the time limit by voice vote. The chair announced the meeting was being recorded and that the recording would be posted online within 10 days.
The board approved the following action items (motions summarized):
Votes at a glance - Adoption of revised design guidelines (see separate story): unanimous roll-call approval after presentation (motion cited zoning ordinance 3,101). - ARB-2026-MV-000061915 (1915 Murphys Road, Holland Hills HOD): Motion to approve construction of a primary bedroom and bath rear addition as submitted; motion carried by voice vote. The approval requires the applicant to request an amendment from ARB for any proposed changes. - ARB-2026-MP-00007 (7410 Ricard Lane, Holland Hills HOD): Motion to approve a new screen porch addition as submitted; motion carried by voice vote. - ARB-2026-MV00004 (2203 Martha's Lane / 2203 Moses Road accessory structure repairs): Motion to approve siding and roof repairs to a detached structure (storm damage repairs) as submitted; motion carried by voice vote. - ARB-2026-MP-0005 (1911 Marcus Lane, Holland Hills HOD): Motion to approve replacement of windows using insulated glass and enlargement of one window as submitted; motion carried by voice vote.
Each approval included the standard ARB condition that the applicant must request an amendment from the ARB for any proposed changes to the approved plans. Several board members asked about availability of printed guidelines, building permit questions for repair work, and whether specific items had previously been addressed in prior workshops.
Next steps: staff will post the meeting recording and finalized minutes, and applicants have the obligation to request ARB amendments before altering approved work.
