River Farm greenhouse proposal prompts questions over demolition of contributing garage

The American Horticultural Society (AHS) presented a proposal to replace the North Garage at River Farm with an approximately 400-square-foot greenhouse at a Feb. 12 workshop before the Fairfax County Architectural Review Board.
Patty Taylor of Walsh Colclough (presenting for the applicant) said the greenhouse would be constructed within the existing footprint, reuse the concrete foundation where feasible, and use reclaimed brick or masonry from the original structure to remain contextual with the manor house and carriage house. "We would not be expanding the house beyond what the existing North Garage is today," she said.
