Parks & Recreation outlines spring events and asks senior commission for volunteers

A Parks & Recreation representative briefed the Senior Citizens Commission on upcoming programs and volunteer opportunities. Key events highlighted included an 'Enchanted Afternoon (PJs and Princesses)', a Running Trail Hop and a Bunny Trail Hop scheduled for March 28, a Cocktails & Cottontails adult egg hunt, a mindful movement program in green space, weekly yoga nights and a new Pilates class at the senior center. Parks staff asked the commission to consider volunteering for the Bunny Trail Hop and other family events; they said volunteers could staff activity booths and help run children’s activities and photo stations with the Easter Bunny.

Attendance estimates for the Bunny Trail Hop were discussed in the meeting: staff estimated about 300–360 children based on prior giveaways and participation. Parks staff noted event logistics—booth counts (roughly nine booths), event location at Fox Den and Oak Tree Pavilion areas near the baseball fields and the need to coordinate with city communications and marketing. Members discussed how the senior commission could be more visible through the city newsletter and suggested distributing magnets or postcards to the 55+ community and leveraging city mailings.

Parks representatives also described regular program communications (monthly parks newsletter and a separate senior center newsletter) and said they use both printed mail and email lists to reach residents. Members agreed to consider volunteer commitments and follow up with Parks & Recreation staff for specific assignments.
