Mayor Orbison opened his remarks by marking Constitution Day and declaring a week-long recognition: "the week of September 2025 shall be known as Historic Week and Tombstone Tales Week in the city of Taylorsville," and invited Susan Haldeski, chair of the Historic Preservation Committee, to receive the proclamation.
The mayor described Tombstone Tales, a free dramatic history tour at the Taylorsville Cemetery, and encouraged residents to participate. He also highlighted recent community events (Chamber West gala), school visits, and a planned kitchen remodel at Fire Station 118. The mayor recognized detectives and firefighters by name and thanked volunteers and business partners.
Later in the meeting the mayor presented and administered the oath to the newly appointed Taylorsville Youth Council members and announced four youth ambassadors for the year. He described the youth-council activities for the remainder of the year, including a wreath fund-raiser (wreaths priced at $17 each) and a veterans ceremony scheduled for Dec. 13. Mayor Orbison invited parents and community members to support the youth council and noted materials and QR codes were available for sign-up and contribution.
Council and audience members applauded the youth council; the mayor and council encouraged community participation in upcoming events such as Starry Nights, the farmers market and the Boo Dash.
