Commissioners approve first reading to allow more alternate members on GRAMA appeals board

The Weber County Board of Commissioners on Feb. 17 approved the first reading of an ordinance that revises the makeup of the county’s GRAMA (Government Records Access and Management Act) Appeals Board to allow the commission to appoint more than one alternate member.
Cortland Erickson said the change was requested by the board’s GRAMA appeals chair, Ernie Gonzalez, after hearings had to be rescheduled when both regular and alternate members were unavailable. The proposed amendment removes the strict limit of 'one alternate as a county employee and one alternate as a member of the public' and instead allows the commission flexibility to appoint one or more alternates to ensure timely hearings.
Commissioners said the change is a straightforward way to avoid scheduling delays for public records appeals; the board moved and approved the ordinance’s first reading.
