Allie (Allie/Ally) Loring, the Taylorsville Senior Center manager, presented program statistics and described a range of services the center offers to city seniors.
Loring said the center served 667 clients in 2025; average daily attendance was 89 and the center served about 59 meals per day. She said the average client age is 73, roughly 8% of participants are veterans, and the centers health-promotion classes (including an evidence-based enhanced fitness class held three days a week) support cardiovascular and mobility outcomes. Loring highlighted transportation as a key service: the center provides door-to-door rides, helps clients on and off the bus, and accommodates several hours of programming and lunch before returning participants home.
Why it matters: Loring presented maps showing higher food-insecurity and lower grocery access in parts of Taylorsville, arguing that the centers congregate meals and home-delivered meals reduce food insecurity and social isolation for many seniors. She said research shows congregate and home-delivered meals improve health markers such as management of hypertension and cardiovascular risk.
Council reaction: Members praised the programs impact on social connection and nutrition, and several members said they would visit and promote the center in their districts.
Representative quote: "These services are very well appreciated, and I thoroughly enjoy my job because I love working with the public," Loring said.
Ending: Council thanked Loring for the presentation and encouraged members to visit the center and help promote services to residents.
