Judge Bowne administered the oath of office to newly re-elected Taylorsville officials at a special pre-meeting on Jan. 6, after which several newly sworn members offered brief remarks thanking voters and family and pledging to serve the city.
Mayor (identified in the transcript as 'Mayor') used the opportunity to preview the city’s early 2026 calendar, including a resolution observing Jan. 16 as National Religious Freedom Day, a planned six-month closure of the Taylorsville library for renovation (staff said it is expected to reopen in June), regional transportation outreach with Wasatch Front and ChamberWest, and early planning for the city’s 30th-anniversary Taylorsville Days celebration.
Later in the meeting the council held a secret-ballot election for leadership for 2026. Jamie, the council recorder, collected ballots and announced Council member Knutson had been elected chair and Council member Cochrane had been elected vice chair; those leadership roles will take effect at the council’s next meeting.
The meeting also included ceremonial recognition of Sergeant Jake Griffith by the police chief, the appointment of a planning commissioner, presentations from justice court judges and staff, and other items listed on the regular agenda. The council adjourned after completing business.
The mayor’s announcements and the leadership election are the most recent procedural developments; the council scheduled a public hearing on midyear budget adjustments at a future meeting and confirmed the next regular city council meeting date.
