Mayor Proton Wynn told commissioners the CIO candidate was selected after a national search supported by a Knight Foundation grant: "She stood way ahead of everybody else. Certainly, we think she's the most qualified," he said as the body moved and approved the appointment to send to the consent agenda.
The commission approved a $102,631 agreement with Signature Tennis Courts to resurface and repair pickleball courts at Tacknell Pickleball Center to be paid from SPLOST 2018 recreation funds. A $60,000 change order for electronic monitoring contract labor — presented as an addition to cover usage through the July budget cycle — was approved; staff estimated roughly $7 as a base cost per ankle monitor and about $10,000 per month in service usage.
Commissioners also approved an amendment to the construction manager at risk agreement with Chris R. Sheridan & Company for additional renovations to the Macon City Auditorium in the amount of $2,181,395 and authorized an appropriation of $2,750,000 from the SPLOST 2018 auditorium property fund. Clay Murphy, supplies coordinator, described the scope: main‑floor corridor repairs, plaster and wall coverings, new men's and women's restrooms on the main floor (about six stalls each), facade work to match the historic exterior, and replacement of dated sound and lighting systems.
A supplemental appropriation of $22,000 from general fund balance to the probate court contract labor line item was approved as well. The body then moved into an executive session to consult with county counsel on pending or potential litigation and administrative proceedings.
What this means: The CIO appointment and the consent items were advanced together and will be implemented by the relevant county departments. The auditorium work includes accessibility improvements such as a main‑floor to basement elevator and will replace major building systems; timing and contractor schedules will be managed by county procurement.
