Cuyahoga County Council on April 8 adopted a substitute budget amendment aimed at narrowing the county's 2025 operating deficit and approving routine appropriations for grants and infrastructure projects.
Council sponsors said the substitute makes two specific changes to the version initially proposed by the administration: it "incorporates reductions in the communications office with the executive office" and it "deletes the reductions in appropriations for the casino revenue fund since spending there relates to capital rather than operating expenses." The council voted by voice to accept the substitute and then adopted the substitute on its merits.
The adopted fiscal package (the regular biweekly fiscal agenda) includes additional appropriations for grant programs and appropriation increases for several spring and summer road and bridge projects, including North Main Street, the Lee Drive Bridge Project, work on Rockside Road and the Snow Road and Wilson Mills Road resurfacing projects. The sponsor urged colleagues to support the amendment as a measure to close the county's operating shortfall for 2025.
The council handled the substitute first, allowed questions from members to be asked on the floor, and then carried the adoption by voice vote. The meeting record does not include a roll-call tally for the vote.
The council also scheduled committee follow-ups for more detailed review of items referred from the fiscal agenda. No further public hearings on this substitute were recorded at the meeting; the item will appear in upcoming committee schedules where applicable.
