Laura Carlson of the elections division presented the proposed changes: add 14 precincts, update 24 precincts and make one legal description correction; several adjustments respond to city annexations in Tumwater and Yelm and precincts approaching 1,500 registered voters. Staff said commissioner district boundaries will not change and that the internal legal descriptions are administrative updates.
The board closed the public hearing after no public comments were offered and then approved two ordinances by unanimous vote: one to update precinct legal descriptions and boundaries and another to amend commissioner-district legal descriptions to reflect the precinct changes. Staff said they will publish the final legal descriptions and maps and noted statutory timing constraints under RCW 29A.16.040 (no changes within seven days prior to candidate-filing deadlines). The elections division will finalize materials and notify impacted voters as required by statute.
