Fargo library board approves routine business, hears staffing updates and Friends’ fundraising report

A staff report noted two part-time branch positions are open and in the interview stage. Staff also announced that outreach librarian and volunteer coordinator Pam Strait will retire at the end of the month after nearly 25 years with the library.
The Friends of the Library reported advocacy and fundraising successes, including a March read-in with more than 80 attendees, a strong fall book sale at the Carlson location and a $2,000 grant from the FM Area Foundation to support operations. Friends representatives said they supported more than $25,000 in recent funding requests for library programming.
Financial highlights in the director’s report included small unrestricted donations, a $500 restricted nonfiction donation from Bruce Eisler, and operating expenditures at about 87% of budget through November. The board closed the meeting and noted the next regular meeting is scheduled for Jan. 20; because that date falls on the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday the board said the meeting may shift to the following Tuesday at the main library community room and that the agenda will show the location.
