Hector International sets Feb. 9 target to begin operations from new terminal addition; full renovation through 2026

The Hector International Municipal Airport Authority heard a progress report on the terminal addition and renovation on Dec. 16, as staff outlined a phased schedule to open new gates and move airlines into the expansion.
Maiden Hunt project representative Brandon told the board the team is finishing Level‑1 ticketing and Level‑2 finishes, coordinating with concession operator Skydine and working closely with TSA on the checkpoint migration. He said punch‑list work will begin in mid‑January and that the team is aiming for airlines to operate from the new gates beginning in February. A later speaker gave specific near‑term milestones: a January 12 punch‑list window, a February 9 goal to “be flying planes” from the expansion, and a March 1 target to complete the immediate next phase.
Brandon described interior work under way: installation of the wood curtain wall at ticketing, terrazzo and tile finishes, acoustical ceilings, carpet on Level‑2, and ongoing mechanical/electrical/plumbing completion. He said the coffee bar and a temporary concessions plan are being coordinated with Skydine so concession service can continue during renovation.
Board members pressed on details of phasing and passenger amenities. One asked whether restaurants adjacent to the new terminal could be fast‑tracked to bring food options online sooner; Brandon said it would be possible to revisit phasing but cautioned that creating temporary egress and corridor separations for an operating full kitchen could be costly. The board also reviewed an aesthetic change noted during a tour: the coffee bar was intentionally splayed outward to improve sightlines from the checkpoint area, a permanent design decision rather than a temporary staging change.
Project staff said the renovation of the existing concourse, baggage claim and other services will continue after the addition opens. They described a multi‑month shift of ticketing areas and airlines as the renovation progresses and said the full renovation program will proceed into 2026.
