Commission appoints John Raby Cresson to fill District 2 vacancy

The Lincoln County Board of Commissioners selected John Raby Cresson on Feb. 17 to fill the District 2 seat left vacant by Ben Brown.
Chair opened the item and announced four applicants by order of receipt: John Raby Cresson, James Larry Shelton, Colin Wakefield and Regina Dotson. Each nominee addressed the commission for up to three minutes. Cresson described his community ties, prior attendance at commission and budget meetings with his late father and a commitment to “show up” and learn county procedures. Shelton, Wakefield and Dotson each gave brief remarks about their ties to Lincoln County and reasons for seeking appointment.
The clerk conducted sequential roll-call votes to eliminate candidates by plurality until a majority selected Cresson. After the vote, Cresson took the oath of office, swearing to support the constitutions of Tennessee and the United States and to faithfully perform duties as county commissioner representing District 2.
The chair noted that with the appointment the full commission restored the threshold of 13 members needed for a majority on regular business. Commissioners thanked the candidates and family members for participating in the process. No additional conditions or alternative outcomes were recorded.
Next steps: Cresson signed required paperwork and was assigned a seat; the commission will proceed with ordinary business with the newly appointed member in place.
