The Kalamazoo Environmental Concerns Committee interviewed applicant Luke Zimmer and reached unanimous consensus to recommend him for appointment to the ECC.
Zimmer told the committee he moved to Kalamazoo three years ago, lives on Stevens Avenue (inside city limits) and has experience helping nonprofits manage online communities including work for the National Geographic Society education department. He described interest in local environmental issues such as noise pollution and civic engagement and said his consulting work gives him schedule flexibility for the committee’s third-Wednesday meetings.
The committee said Zimmer met the committee’s residency and interest requirements and expressed support for his addition. The chair and staff said the committee’s recommendation will be forwarded to the city commission, which must formally approve the appointment; the transcript records the committee’s unanimous endorsement but not a formal city-commission appointment during this meeting.
Provenance: Interview and committee recommendation recorded from SEG 509 through SEG 757.
