TUSTIN, Calif. — At its December meeting the Tustin Unified School District Board of Education reorganized leadership, approved personnel actions disclosed after closed session and cleared several labor and policy items.
Board members elected Lynn Davis as board president by unanimous voice vote, and Jonathan Abelov as vice president. Allison Muniz de Nicholas was elected board clerk. Out of closed session the board announced approval of an administrative appointment: employee 252605 was named interim assistant principal, Orchard Hills K–8, effective Dec. 1, 2025; the board also approved paid administrative leave for employee 25269, effective Nov. 20, 2025. The board reported the closed-session readouts as having passed on motions (Allison Muniz moved the first item with a second and a 5–0 vote was recorded).
Superintendent Johnson and guests marked the leadership change: Will Neterson, representing the Tustin School Management Association, offered a brief tribute to outgoing president Jonathan Stone, saying, "Your leadership with the board has guided our district with vision, compassion, and unwavering dedication." Jonathan Stone was thanked for his service before the new officers assumed their roles.
The board also approved several labor agreements with the California School Employees Association, chapter 450. The three memoranda of understanding covered an extended work-year calendar (180-day work year), support for a paraeducator conference, and a summer saver/assistance program for association employees in 2026–27. A board member explained the summer saver program: employees may set aside portions of paychecks that are matched by the state, producing paychecks during summer months to help families bridge that period.
On policy matters the board approved first reading of a revision concerning recognition of religious beliefs and customs (exhibits A–D) and adopted board policy 6142.1 on health and HIV/AIDS prevention instruction; the board also approved a first reading of comprehensive health education exhibits that will return for later action. The consent calendar, described by the presiding officer as administrative and noncontroversial, was adopted in a single voice vote.
What happens next: Newly elected officers will carry out committee assignments and serve as district representatives to external organizations; the district will implement the MOUs and staff will execute any next steps required by the agreements.
