The Capistrano Unified School District Board of Trustees completed a series of formal actions at its Sept. 17 meeting, approving closed-session recommendations, adopting the consent calendar and adjourning for the evening.
At the start of the meeting trustees moved to adopt the agenda. The motion, moved by Trustee Volokas and seconded by Trustee Jones, carried 6–0–1 (Trustee Castellanos was absent) when the board first convened.
After a closed session, Missus Hayes read a report of actions: trustees voted 7–0 to approve staff recommendations on ADR cases (case numbers 20250808 and 20250818) and 7–0 to approve staff recommendations on OAH cases (2025020341, 2025030499, 2025030987, 2025060737 and 2025080695). Trustees also voted 7–0 to approve staff recommendation to reject government claim number 2413790.
When the board returned to open session, trustees approved the consent calendar by roll call with the exception of item 14B2, which had been pulled for a wording correction. Trustee Jones moved approval of the consent calendar (except 14B2); the roll call showed Student Board Member Hanson and all trustees voting aye and the motion carried 7–0. Later discussion on item 14B2 resulted in staff amending the language on page 155 from "believes" back to "acknowledges" as directed in a prior workshop; trustees then approved the revised item 7–0.
Trustee Zollinger moved to adjourn the meeting; the motion was seconded and carried 7–0 (with the preferential vote by Student Board Member Hanson). The meeting adjourned at 8:46 p.m.
No ordinances or resolutions requiring multi-step hearings were adopted during the meeting; the public hearing on Resolution 25-26-10 (textbooks and instructional materials) was opened and closed with no public testimony and required no board action.
